Social Architect & Coordinator

Host Contract $28/hr

Hey,

Just a head's up, this is a social-ops hybrid role that requires more social battery than spreadsheet mastery.

So,

Who We Are

We are a soon-to-launch offline social club in Halifax with the goal of hosting small, consistent in-person gatherings for adults interested in building deep friendships.

We are looking for a Social Architect & Coordinator who helps with operational tasks and also acts as Social Diplomat.

Who You Are

You are a person who can walk into a room of strangers, read the energy, and effortlessly bridge gaps between wildly different demographics.

You have extremely high emotional intelligence and a low ego.

Because our events will be inclusive, you will encounter diverse cultures, different generations, and varying levels of social grace

That being said, if your instinct is to argue, get defensive, or whip out a keyboard to start your warrior journey, then this is not the role for you.

We're looking for someone who can step into the friction, gently de-escalate the situation, and tactfully turn it into a teachable moment while restoring the general vibe of the room.

What You’ll Actually Be Doing

Phase 1 (Now):

  • Admin Follow Up (Accountant's, Legal, etc)
  • Outreach (Partnerships, Venues, Contractors)
  • Social Media Asset Creation (using templates)
  • Research & Brainstorming (in-person)

Phase 2 (April+):

  • Shifting more into co-hosting & participating in events
  • Setup, take-down, doing the activities, recap/taking notes after.
  • Continued outreach, social media asset creation, research & brainstorming. (hours may increase in April)

Rate:
$28/hr
Location: Hybrid
Schedule: 10-15 hours/week to start

Availability: Evenings, weekends for in-person meetings, anytime for remote work

Hybrid Details: The initial tasks are remote friendly admin work, the in-person work will include meeting people, co-hosting events, and in-person research.

How to Apply

Please send your resume, but no cover letter.
Instead, in the comment box, please answer this scenario in 200 words or less:

Scenario:
You're co-hosting an event when a 55-year-old member makes a clumsy, mildly insensitive comment about some cultural food a 30-year-old member brought to share. The younger member looks uncomfortable, but doesn't say anything. There are other members nearby who were filling up their plates who look over at them.

You're also in the room and had just finish setting down the snack bowl.

What would you say or do in the next 30 seconds to diffuse the situation, educate without shaming, and rebalance the energy in the room.

Thank you
